The Dark Tetrad: The Labyrinth of Machiavellianism
Machiavellianism is characterised by being manipulative, duplicitous and having a willingness to deceive and exploit others for personal gain. The word comes from Italian philosopher Niccolò Machiavelli, who wrote the 'The Prince' in the 1500s, which encourages “the end justifies the means” behaviour. Someone who is machiavellian is cunning, sneaky and lacks a moral code.
This podcast looks at Machiavellianism in the context of The Dark Tetrad, which also consists of psychopathy, narcissism and sadism, outlining the nature of Machiavellian behaviour in the context of the other three also co occuring.

In Stoicism, indifference refers to a state of mind where people aim to maintain a sense of inner peace regardless of external circumstances. This does not mean apathy or lack of concern, but a deliberate focus on what can be controlled and acceptance of what cannot be controlled. This video looks at the concept of becoming indifferent in the context of recovery from narcissistic abuse, and cro...

“So when the kids want him, they need him [covert narcissist parent], he has his own projects, his own worries, he has other responsibilities and not much time. (Even if he is just watching television.)” More and more familiar from parents in more recent years; such as them needing to do something before would get back to me - for 1/2 a year! And latest, too busy reply to a quick text from me (that they told me they ‘know’ is toxic, while admitting, years and sometimes even decades later, when pressed that they either mistook past positive letters as personal attacks, never read them, and/or deleted them!) - for well over 1/2 a year now and counting! I guess my repeated attempts to praise them, comfort their emotions, check in, educate, dialogue, get to respectful interactions, etc. for over a decade are leading to a de-facto No Contact that I didn’t seek, but might just be what I’ve needed all my life.

number 11...Paranioa/mind reading. Constantly, on a daily basis claiming they know what I'm thinking and it's always negative. Not paying enough attention or even a wrong glance, or just about anything for that matter, was met with 'you don't really love me' or 'you don't want to be with me' The constant reassurances needed from that kind of insecurity was exhausting, and so hurtful to be constantly defending myself and my total love I had for her....

I've ignored for about 3 days now. I am being ignored too. I am waiting for reactions. I am preparing for the worst. Unfortunately, i have financial obligations too her. hence total disengagement is practically impossible. I can't wait to get it over with. I wish she can replace me as soon as possible.

Thank you for teaching us in such a kind, calm, easy to understand manner. It’s very healing how peaceful your lessons are, bc I had to learn from harsh sources as a child. Your videos replace the harsh voices in my memory with kindness. 🤍 So many great tips, esp writing positive balanced things and gratitudes down in our own handwriting as a visceral reminder, as evidence that good things happened. 43:42 The idea of not burdening ourselves trying to figure out someone else’s fantasy was so perfectly stated. Gold nugget thought that’ll stay with me forever. 🌟 ‘difficult is not the same as impossible’ ‘trying is risking succeeding’ ‘how would you advise a friend: stern but gentle’ I also had to laugh bc I do have a bouncy castle for my kids’ parties lol I should fill it up sometime just to relax in the ball pit part lol. I’m going to try to order the Paul Hauck book too, thanks for the recommendation.

We agreed to work together, but I was the one driving the train, I was finding the articles and directing the program....all with his approval. He slacked off, it was like I was responsible for his problem. I stopped, he won't go any further, he has no desire to do better. He's going to lose his family, we can't take it anymore.

I have suffered from this continuously in my relationship i'm the husband. She is now i know the term a covert narcissist. I feel I'm loosing my mind trying to explain whats happeneing because its obvious. if i do i get told im having a go , shouting at her etc etc Then she goes away upset all the covert narcissist rules apply. I am bipolar an as a result this is used as a forever . Its you look what uve done. Goads me constantly , she is aware of my triggers ive discussed them over and over . Yet they persistently get pushed an i pn e again fall into the trap. It doesnt matter what i say or do the result is the same, if i get head way it gets stepped up a level and its my bipolar .. We have been together for 24 years and looking back this has always been the case . It's horrible I've had the police phoned on me charged with abuse basically . , she takes control of majority of my money by not having me paid it directly we work together in our well her business. So lately I have now had my job taken , I now don't have my home . Can't be with my kids , as the case is ongoing I'm treated like scum even the level of disrespect from my own solicitors is palpable. I don't know what to do ! I get messages apologising for lying to the police. To what avail . Since I've been away my son 18 asking his why have you done this you know what you have done! And what you are doing is now getting the same covert abuse He's not doing anything being told he's scaring her and that if he keeps doing it he should leave etc. She will enter his room say Why are you looking at me like you hate me. He reply I'm Not, why are you shouting at me or arguing with me . Baiting him to make reply trying to make sense of what the he'll is going on. at which point she will go away upset saying I can't take this etc etc. Feel like I want to cry well I have many times now .. sorry for long post.. thank you so much for all your videos i didnt know there wqs a term for this or that so many people sufferex at the hands of people like this

Exactly that was my experience. I cried and was in despair and had to nearly break until I finally had to choose between breaking and living. It was the realisation that if your own mother risks your breaking she is not a mother. I felt shame at first for feeling indifference. But the conviction that no mother should act like this made the shame go away. Now she is just another person in my life who acts in unhealthy ways. What I’m still not done with is the sorrow about losing my whole family due to her lies. She is very, very manipulative. She embeds really horrific made-up stories into facts so that the family thinks: That fact is true, so the rest must be true as well. And she inserts such horrific stories also into praise about me, with a naive attitude, so that listeners think she is just too good and get upset in her stead, even going after me, particularly my siblings. It’s truly anxiety provoking because I can’t defend myself and don’t get believed. I feel alone. I talked to my uncle who is a lawyer but even if there’s actual written proof he will not protect me because he cherishes the family gatherings and his sister who shows a decent, lovely face to everybody else. I have gone no contact now but I find myself dreaming about making audios of her slander behind everybody’s back. I should have done so. And then post it in the family group. Only that that wouldn’t be legal. It’s a shame because in these cases the laws don’t allow you to protect yourself.
